How to Choose a Web Host

Choosing the hosting features

• E-mail : Most web hosting companies offer hosting that comes with email accounts for no extra charge. Make sure you get yours for free!
• Uploading Files : Make sure you get a hosting that allows you to use FTP to upload your files to the server. Most hosting allow you to use file managers on the browser, but it is slow for uploading large files.
• Hosting speed : Make sure you get a host that is nearer to your customers. Websites tend to load faster if the servers are closer. So, if you are in Malaysia, make sure you get Malaysian web hosting!
• Disk Space : Most information-only websites barely use up 20MB, so, you dont have to get huge disk-space unless you are going to host videos and many images. But don't worry too much about this. Most hosting companies allow you to upgrade your packages.
• Data-Transfer (a.k.a. Bandwidth) : Most information-only websites with 1000 visitors a month dont use more than 1GB of data-transfer. Much like disk space, you don't have to worry too much about this. You should be allowed to upgrade in the future.
• Secure Connections (SSL) : If you are going to run an online store and you want your customers to trust you better, make sure you use a secure connection to your website.
• Windows or Linux Hosting? : Most people tend to go for linux hosting, as it is said to be more secure. However, if you are going to run ASP language on your hosting, Windows hosting is preferred, as linux hosting might not provide ASP support.
